Often when connecting to a Wi-Fi network you see 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz listed. The 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz are different radio frequencies in Wi-Fi. The 2.4Ghz  is typically a longer radio frequency that can cover a larger area reaching through walls and ceilings. However, it is more susceptible to interference from microwaves and other household devices.

The 5Ghz frequency is a shorter faster frequency, and is less likely to have interference issues from other devices, however, it will not be able to travel as far. Newer devices will automatically default to the best frequency for your location.
